Whose Fight Is It?

It was one of those weeks when more things had gone wrong than right. The deck was stacked against me; no use trying anymore.

While wallowing in shame and defeat, my eyes were drawn upward to the right-hand corner of my bedroom, just feet away from where I sat.

Earlier this year, Jesus had met me there; a vision of white and gold with a sword upraised, the very essence of power and victory. I was not afraid of His weapon or His authority because of His smile.

He was my Advocate and the sword He held was for use on my behalf. The vision was one of both victory and overwhelming love.

Today, that vision of victory collided with my present feelings of defeat.

Then suddenly a voice halted the sparring in my head.

“I will fight for you.”

I sat up straight.

“What?”

The voice came again.

“I will fight for you.”

The words reminded me of similar ones from a bible study I’d done several years ago. I needed to see those words again in black and white.

And there they were, in Exodus 14:14.

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Hope surged through my veins, replacing my despair with vitality. Jesus had fought for me before. He was reminding me that He would do it again!

Those words have been trailing me for weeks now, bringing me comfort time and again.

And today I am thinking about you, wondering…

Do you know that Jesus will fight for you?

Is there something in your life today that has beat you down and spit you out?

You can’t do it anymore.

Why not ask Jesus to fight for you?

Better yet, recognize the fact that He already is.

Right now, all you need to do is be still.

Sometimes that’s really hard.

Because… what will you do while Jesus is doing the fighting?

Doing nothing feels so powerless.

But all the striving and worrying didn’t help me.

It won’t help you.

So, just be still.

There will eventually be something for us to do.

After God fought for Israel, He did ask them to act. They were to walk through the Red Sea on the path He’d provided for them.

I have a feeling He will ask you to walk too, right through the middle of the impossible trauma or the overwhelming mess in your life. It’s what He does.

But it will only be after He has fought for you, parted your sea, and made a way to escape the enemy that is coming against you today.

Until then, my friend, be still.

And let Jesus fight for you.
